Steve Wright Art
Steve Wright is a British painter, currently based in Watford. He has exhibited across the U.K. and internationally. He teaches courses at Morley College, London, including Advanced Painting Practice.
His paintings and drawings depict a variety of brightly coloured man-made objects that have been re-imagined or re-located within an anonymous landscape. Vehicles, inflatables and images derived from the fairground or seaside are shown against the sky in improbable situations that explore the psychology of objects and their surroundings.
Influences include the British painter Michael Simpson and the combination of unease and humour that characterises the late work of Philip Guston.
In 2004, Steve suffered partial and permanent sight loss from glaucoma. Works made after that date show an increased boldness and directness: impaired vision has proved to be, in some respects, an advantage.
